Steel is the foundation of an industrial America. Losing American jobs isn’t just about the end product – it’s about the raw materials and the stock materials necessary to make them.
West Virginia has been the victim of cheap steel being dumped on this country from afar. Cheap because of unbelievably low labor costs, low safety standards and low environmental standards. We can no longer allow for that to happen to our workers.
Many think the answer is in retraining our workforce. And although there is a place for that, it is significantly more important to actually MAKE STEEL IN THIS COUNTRY! Our national defense depends on it. Our manufacturing depends on it. And our very livelihood in many towns across northern West Virginia depends on it.
