Issues: Education

I believe the role of the federal government should be limited. Education should primarily be the state’s responsibility.

I would be the first to admit that some federal programs, such as Head Start and Title 1, have helped our schools. But I think if we get involved in an over-expansion of the federal government’s role in education, we do little more than increase the national debt burden – and, ironically, it’s those students who will eventually have to manage the oppressive debt.

I believe that education is generally handled best at the state and local level. School boards are better when the leadership is close to the people, when teachers can decide what is best for their students.
